Greetings From the Presidents
Beyond the Doldrums
oldrums! Many of us experience the doldrums during the month of January, perhaps because we feel a
letdown from the excitement of the holidays or because the winter weather keeps us indoors.
There are many things, including our AAUW activities and events, which can pull us out of the doldrums. Below are a few
highlights that should titillate your interest.
- Monday February 1
- Speech Trek Contest for high school students at Granite Bay Library. 5:30 pm. Come support these students' efforts and see winners receive scholarship money. Free.
- Saturday February 6
- Placer County Academic Decathlon. Woodcreek High School, Roseville. 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Free.
- Saturday February 20
- Bunco Party to benefit Legal Advocacy Fund and Educational Opportunities Fund. 1:00 to 4:00 pm. $10. Reservations required.
- Thursday March 4
- International Women's Day! CARE presents the movie Half the Sky across the nation at 7:30 pm. Theater location TBA soon.
- Saturday March 20
- Spring Fashion Show & Luncheon in partnership with The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop. This is a fundraiser for our college scholarships. 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Our AAUW National President, Carolyn Garfein, will join us!

AAUW Leadership and Training Institute
Through Leadership and Training Institute (LTI) programs, women and girls acquire the skills they need to succeed and assume leadership roles in their academic, professional, and personal lives. Programs include Campus Action Projects, the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders in Washington, D.C., the Student Advisory Council, and Campaign College.
AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund
The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF) works to combat sex discrimination in higher education and workplaces through campus outreach programs, an online resource library, and research reports. LAF also provides support to workplace sex discrimination cases that have the potential to make a difference for all women.
